The Spellbinder from Pel-rezlata

A magical apprentice and coming of age fantasy with high personal stakes, magical animal friends, and a low body count.

If rock-throwing, magic-filled Sha-li didn't keep her promises, she'd abandon the witch she's apprenticed to and go hunt down the curse-wielding dragon she swore to find. But her word means something to her and she's determined to stick out her education.

Everything is going fine. Just irritatingly fine until she's forced into a magical agreement with a seed-planting len from the north end of nowhere.

The problem is, the terms for the agreement are vague at best and stupidly restricting at worst. She's not going to be tied to the len or her teacher forever, but the question is, does she have the magic it will take to break free without breaking her word or her promises?

Perfect for readers who love:

•Strong heroines who grow and learn
•Loyal magical animal companions
•Action-packed adventures
•Character-driven narrative
•Unique magic
•Mythical creatures (from the sweet to the deadly)
•Uplifting story arcs

Character-driven with good vibes as well as lots of attitude, The Spellbinder from Pel-rezlata is for fans of the themes of "coming of age," "identity and the shadow self," and "knowledge and patience versus power and pride" as found in Le Guin's The Wizard of Earthsea as well as for those who love the joy of the journey experienced in Becky Chamber's Monk and Robot and Wayfarers series but set in a fantasy world rather than space.
