The Underground Railway was formed for those trying to escape the world of slavery. It was a series of safe houses. Those involved had code words that had to do with Trains, and that is why it was called The Underground Railway.


We feel that understanding of how Black Americans escaped slavery to freedom is essential knowledge for everyone.
