Miss Demeter Finnwickie needs no assistance in educating the students who attend her Mayfair finishing school. She is the youngest headmistress in her institution's history, thank you very much. But the earl of Southwick has some very particular notions about his daughter's education. Notions he enjoys sharing with Demeter...frequently. His constant visits prove as intriguing as they do irritating.

Thoughts of the widowed earl consume Demeter far too often, and the timing of her newfound attraction could not be worse. A masked bandit prowls the streets of Mayfair, preying on titled gentlemen and then distributing their monies to charities across the city. The Dangler, as he is called, could be Robin Hood reincarnated, and he would still incense Demeter. It is difficult to attract new students when there is a prowler on the loose.
