Just this once . . . Please let me get away with it just this once . . .
Tobey wants a better life - for him and his girlfriend Callie Rose. He wants nothing to do with the gangs that rule the world he lives in. But when he's offered the chance to earn some money just for making a few 'deliveries', just this once, would it hurt to say 'yes'?
One small decision can change everything . . .
The fourth novel in Malorie Blackman's powerful Noughts & Crosses sequence.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
There’s a reason why the Noughts & Crosses titles are Stormzy’s favourite books of all time. Malorie Blackman’s seminal dystopia (in which black people, Crosses, dominate the British ruling classes and white people, Noughts, struggle) has achieved iconic status. This, Blackman’s fourth in the series, might be the most impressive. It benefits from focusing on two of her most compelling characters: Callie Rose, the mixed-race secret activist and her best-friend-maybe-more, Tobey. He’s a nought who’s suddenly sucked into the gang warfare that has begun plaguing Blackman’s dystopian British streets. It’d be remiss of us to give too much away, but the pair’s explosive relationship produces emotional shrapnel to rival the physical.
