Georgetown Critical Care Top 40

Here are 40 landmark ICU articles organized into 6 sections: Sepsis, ARDS / Mechanical Ventilation, Sedation / Vent liberation, General Critical Care, Gastroenterology/Nutrition and Brain injury / Cardiac arrest / Outcomes. After careful review, we summarized each into a paragraph describing the methods, results, strengths, weaknesses and controversies. Each has a “practice point” – how the conclusions of that study should inform your decision making as the ICU resident. This summary is not intended to replace your own individual review of these articles, nor is it comprehensive. There is a bias toward recent articles which inform current practice, the older foundational ones are referenced.
