Song of Songs

The 'Song of Songs' is a love poem from the middle of the Bible. It has been accepted as an allegory of the love that God - the Bridegroom/King - has for His people, personified by the Bride. The Bride then also represents the individual soul as well as the Church, Mary being pre-eminent. Artist Peter Koenig has made the Song of Songs his special subject. Here, the selected Biblical texts and the paintings are accompanied by a commentary with the sources of the imagery and the religious interpretation.
