The Basics of Virus Infection and Replication

Few topics could be more relevant today than the pandemic caused by the zoonotic virus, SARS-CoV-2. Consequently, it is critical for students to understand the processes involved in the entry and replication of viruses, and the body’s immune response to viral infections. It also is important for students to recognize that different coronaviruses pose health risks for domestic animal species, some of which result in respiratory tract infections. To address these important topics, this interactive book was developed to describe the basic life cycle of viral entry, replication and release, and the cellular response to infection. A series of illustrations, animations and interactive features are included in this book to help students envision and recall these processes.
