The illegitimate daughter of the duke’s late wife, Joan is more interested in the theater than society’s good opinion. Viscount Greywick, meanwhile, is the model of propriety—but in striking up a relationship with Joan, he finds the encouragement he needs to loosen up a little. Eloisa James is the pen name of Shakespeare scholar Mary Bly, and as Joan plans a performance of Hamlet for her family—in which she’ll play the titular character, in breeches no less!—we get to enjoy the author’s insight into the Bard’s work. We love this compelling romance.
