Jessica, Mal, and Azrael bask in the intimacy of the bond they’ve created against all odds. As the Shrouded Isle becomes a true home and friends become family, the idea of public commitment seems possible. However, Jessica wants something from Azrael that he may not be able to give. In addition, Azrael’s new generosity with his fellow magicians may have unforeseen consequences.

When a rogue sorcerer attacks, kidnapping Mal and Jessica, Azrael is treated to a dose of his own memory magic. While Lucy and Tod struggle to find Mal and Jessica, Azrael prepares to wreak havoc on his unsuspecting peers. If Mal and Jessica can’t bring him back to himself, the Shattered Sea may have a new Dark Lord.
