Description
First published in 1912, The Derelict by William Hope Hodgson is a masterpiece of nautical weird fiction.
The story follows a crew who boards an abandoned, storm-damaged ship adrift in the ocean, only to find it covered in a strange, pulsating fungus.
As the terrifying truth unravels, they realize the ship itself has been transformed into a living, predatory entity.
Hodgson masterfully builds a slow-burning sense of isolation and cosmic dread, relying on atmosphere and eerie tension rather than cheap shocks.
A landmark entry in the Timeless Terrors series, it captures the raw psychological fear of the deep sea's hidden anomalies.
Narrated by horror author Jonathan Dunne.
