Children of Islam

Documentary: Children of islam. 


“Children of Islam” is a continuation of the movie “Under the dark sky of the nation” where different subcultures were shown. During the filming of “Under the dark sky of the nation” we noticed an increased interest for a stricter interpretation of Islam among some young people. This occurred after september 11 2001 and Bin Laden became a hero to some of these. A few years later, these guys were hung out in the press as terrorist sympathisers and haters of Jews and Christians. Then we decided to make “Children of Islam”. During working with the film, we met more interesting people who had other approaches to religion and to Sweden. One was a former fundamentalist, another was more secular-oriented. Finally, we met two people who were brought up in a Muslim country, but here in Sweden fighting against Islamic rules and against religion. 


“Children of Islam” is not a film about Islam, but it is a film about six individuals living in Sweden and who all have a background in Islamic countries. It is a film about Islam’s children. The main purpose of the film is to allow different people to express themselves and show the big range available in these environments. 


"Children of islam" won the jury's prize for best documentary at DeReel Independent Film Festival in Australia.
