Felix O'Day

Complete and unabridged, with 58 full-page plates by George Bellows, William James Glackens and John Sloan. An English gentleman walks the streets of New York looking for his wife, who left him, and lives among the pawnbrokers, the pushcart men and the tenement poor while he looks. Smith built the foundation of the Statue of Liberty and the Race Rock Lighthouse, painted watercolours good enough for major museums, and wrote novels in the evenings; this last one is his best, and the city in it is drawn by an engineer who knew every block. Fifty-eight plates of New York street life, from Bellows and Glackens to winter in Central Park, match the city Smith's searching gentleman walks.
