Utgivarens beskrivning

The first work of science fiction, this story challenges readers to remove the abstractions of fantasy to seriously consider the meaning of the ideas put forth. What responsibility does a creator have to its sentient creations? How can a being exiled from society, based solely upon what they look like, ever be kind? Set some time aside to explore these and other questions for yourself in this cultural touchstone: Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.

Frankenstein review

This book is really good and meaningful. It tackles subjects such as the need for companionship and the need to be understood from the creature’s point of view. All he wanted was what everyone else had, to be known and understood. He had a sincere and tender heart which led me to sympathize with the creature and understand why he became the “wretched, abhorred, monster” that everyone said he was, because of how people treated him.
But I can also sympathize with Frankenstein because his point of view shows the consequences of his actions and how he has to live with them. He reflects on the fact that he didn’t think his experiment through and that he acted on irrational feelings of passion and curiosity. He recognizes the duties he had towards the creature and at a certain point, he even understands him. While I see that Frankenstein was wrong, I think his feelings are quite realistic. He did sympathize with the creature after he told him about what his heart yearns for but when the creature asked for him to make another as himself, it was with great and rational arguments that Frankenstein chose to decline. He couldn’t know how the next creature would feel or if it would be worse than the first. His decision, in my opinion, is quite valid but so is the argument that the creature has for wanting a companion.
The book has no boring parts and every chapter is really entertaining. The writing is beautiful and vivid, making it easy to envision everything clearly. Overall, I think this is a great story!
