Joseph Profaci was the Sicilian born head of one of New York's crime families. The Profaci's, Joseph and Salvatore, had immigrated to the United States from Sicily. First settling in Chicago, Joseph could not make it financially in the supermarket business. In 1928 he joined the Mafia and relocated to New York City (Brooklyn). He thrived as an olive oil and tomato paste importer until the 1950s when the government began prosecuting him for delinquent taxes. My e-book looks at Profaci's extensive business interests, i.e. dress manufacturing concerns, clothing shops, etc. In 1954 Salvatore Profaci attempted to foreclose on property listed in Joseph's name. The government prosecuted Joseph for stealing $25,000 from the federal government's coffers.
