Viackrát som sa v exotickej cudzine pristihol pri povznášajúcom pocite

danej chvíle ani nie preto, že by som ju dokázal hneď naplno vychutnať,

ale preto, že som sa už vopred tešil, ako ju budem opisovať svojim

doma... Cestovanie prežívame dvakrát. Najskôr na vlastnej koži a neskôr

v nespočetných obmenách rozprávania. Snáď nie je až také prekvapujúce,

že to druhé prežívanie poskytuje často viac uspokojenia a potešenia.

V rozprávaní už cestovateľ tiež nie je sám. Môže zviesť so sebou toľkých,

koľkí len chcú a majú chuť počúvať, až do najvzdialenejších kútov sveta.

In exotic countries, I was oft en enchanted by an exalting feeling of

a given moment, not because I was immediately able to taste it fully

but because I was looking forward to describing it to my friends back

home… We are travelling twice. First on our own skin and then again

through numerous forms of narration. Maybe it is not surprising at all

that the second experience oft en brings more pleasure and satisfaction

than the fi rst one. In telling his stories, the traveler is not alone.

He can take as many people as he pleases or wants to listen with him to
