In the Matter of J (care order) The High Court Gillen J Delivered, 1 August 2008 This was the second part of a 'split' hearing relating to a Trust application for a care order in respect of J. The respondents were F (in her late teens), the single mother of J (then aged one year), and O who was the mother of F. The father of J was unknown. C, a previous child of F who had a different father (W), had died in early 2004. The postmortem was unable to determine the cause of C's death but it did identify evidence that C had sustained non-accidental injuries prior to death. An investigation was carried out by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) but no prosecution was forth-coming.
