An aesthetically pleasing stab in the back
The book is fundamentally good, possibly great even. There are, however, two gripes I have with it: 1) The book makes use of my least favourite trope, namely the Chosen One, for seemingly no benefit whatsoever. The same story could easily have been told without it. 2) In a pivotal moment, one of the characters makes an unmotivated 180 turn as regards her motives and allegiances, making much of the book past that point, otherwise expertly written, something of a chore to read.
