Before his friend, his confident and his only family Oscar did not have anyone. Without Michael he would have stayed alone for a very long time. Because he didn't even like making friends back then. He didn't even like to talk, nor laugh or smile but everything changed the moment he met Michael. 

It was if his whole entire world changed by just the second. He knew such things could happen that one moment you would be living your normal life and the next you were in someone else's life and you didn't want to leave.
