Breathtaking and chillingly sharp
Hard to put down. Even harder to forget. Impossible not to be spellbound and swept away from first page to last. By far one of the most compelling and captivating psychological thrillers out there. An intricate weave of breathtaking suspense and chillingly sharp psychological insight.
Good but not great
I wanted to love this psychological thriller given all the praise it has. But there are several things I found a bit disappointing.
The characters, including the main one, lack intrigue. Numerous side characters exist without meaningful contributions to the story, lacking depth and functioning more like NPCs in the main character's narrative. Speaking of the protagonist, connecting with them proves challenging on various levels. The character's description occasionally appears pretentious and exaggerated.
The major plot twist at the end felt rushed and was executed in a way that didn't make much sense. I saw it coming early, which ruined the overall reading experience for me.
While it is a well-written psychological thriller, the slow pace, at times, becomes excessively repetitive. The story starts strongly, but many mysteries introduced in the beginning fade away and are forgotten. Ultimately, numerous loose ends leave a mediocre feeling.
I would recommend this book to someone unfamiliar with thrillers. If you're a thriller enthusiast, you might find it good but not exceptional.
