The Time Machine

Utgivarens beskrivning

The Time Machine, first published in 1895, is H. G. Wells's landmark science fiction novella that introduced the concept of deliberate time travel using a mechanical device to the world. The story follows an unnamed inventor known simply as the Time Traveller, who builds a machine capable of transporting him through the fourth dimension — time. He propels himself far into the future, arriving in the year 802,701, where he discovers a world radically transformed. Humanity has diverged into two distinct species: the gentle, childlike Eloi who live above ground in crumbling palaces, and the subterranean Morlocks, pale and ape-like creatures who tend to machinery in the dark. What at first appears to be a paradise reveals itself as a disturbing dystopia built on exploitation and class division. Wells uses this vision of the far future as a powerful allegory for Victorian-era anxieties about class struggle, industrialism, and the ultimate fate of civilization. Elegant, chilling, and profoundly imaginative, The Time Machine remains one of the most influential works of speculative fiction ever written.
