Yantze

The benefits that the Three Gorges Dam were to bring to the Yangtze River delta and its inhabitants were numerous. Local infrastructure, thousands of jobs, better control of the seasonal flooding, a more environmentally responsible source of energy and a method for maintaining water levels for farmers during the dry season, to name but a few. In the early stages of planning it was predicted the dam would eventually provide ten percent of the electricity used in China. Being a renewable source of power the hydroelectric generators would ensure a reduction in pollution along the river and within China as a whole. It became a symbol of China’s ever-increasing population, burgeoning economy and the government’s commitment to provide industry with a steady flow of electricity
