This article contains a description of Borneo from the observations and experiences of the author's visit to the western part of the island and from other sources. He describes the various communities and tribes settled along the rivers, towns and the interior, namely the Malays, Chinese, Dyaks and others. Other information about the country includes its gold and diamond mines, exports and trade, head-hunting practices of the Dyaks taken from Mr Dalton's writings and accounts of the Dutch and their tactics to gain settlement in Pontianak.
