Study outline Current adjuvant treatment of early breast cancer is based upon the anatomic and histopathologic characteristics of the surgically excised tumour (i.e., grade, size, lymph-node status and angiolymphatic invasion). The expression of oestrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) is mandated by standard clinical guidelines and is key in determining therapeutic options such as endocrine therapy, and HER2-directed therapies such as trastuzumab and lapatinib.
