Publisher Description

Introduction In discourses of modern fatherhood in the UK, men's involvement in caring for their children has been positioned as (ideally) adopting elements of the 'new father' discourse (Miller, 2010; O'Brien, 2005), in which men are involved during every stage of the transition to parenthood as opposed to being detached and isolated from the process. Findings emerging from men's accounts of their transition to fatherhood over the last few decades highlight tensions experienced when men try to meet these ideals (Lupton and Barclay, 1997; Barclay and Lupton, 1999; Nystrom and Ohrling, 2004).
