In his 1924 book, Egypt and the Army, author P. G. Elgood demonstrated his intimate knowledge and reasoned criticism of the conditions and circumstances which brought the Egyptian Army into being from 1882 onwards, and resulted in the creation of a reliable fighting force when trained and disciplined by carefully selected British officers.
