He set his mic back on the stand and moved toward me. My heart pounded fast as his hand nestled into the small of my back. He held a hand toward couches against the nearby wall.

"Would you care to have a private show before we take the stage? I want to know if we can win you over." He smelled of leather, sweat, and the faintest hint of black licorice. My head spun from the attention as I let myself be guided to the seat.

The band wasn't taking no for an answer. I couldn't believe it. They started to play, and the room was drowned in throbbing tones that vibrated through my entire body. Joaquin gazed at me as he sang, his nimble fingers wrapped around the microphone that pressed against his supple mouth. He dropped a hand to his side and craned back as he held a long note.
