Publisher Description
The subject matter of Volume IVB is a continuation in part of the subject matter of Volume IVA, namely, the applications to quantum and solid state physics. The first chapter is a very complete review of all the interactions that can take place between acoustic waves and electrons when magnetic fields are present. These include magnetoacoustic oscillations, quantum oscillations, giant quantum oscillations, acoustic cyclotron resonances, and open orbit resonances. The methods for measuring these effects and the conditions under which they occur are discussed. The extentto which these resonances occur in 21 metalsand semimetals is discussed. This extensive review article should form an excellent background for further studies in this rapidly growing Field.
