Technocracy

The world as we know it today faces many challenges; global warming, peak oil, over population, poverty. In this book, Dr. Wallace argues that these problems result as a by-product of our current socioeconomic system. No one organisation or person brings about global warming or poverty, for example. It results form the interactions of government, other organisations and people. The book then argues that any attempt to resolve such problems using the same methods that created them will not succeed. Things like green taxes and carbon trading tackle the symptoms of the problem but not the cause; our current socioeconomic system. The book then proposes an alternative socioeconomic system that aims to balance our needs with those of the ecosystem. One that has its basis in science and rational thinking.
