1. Introduction The focus of this paper will be upon difficulties in developing subtitles that are capable of conveying shifts of tenor of discourse signalled by diglossic means in two Indonesian films from different genres. The first is a teen movie, Ada Apa Dengan Cinta? [What's Up With Love?] while the second is a nationalistic film, Nagabonar Jadi 2 [Nagabonar the Sequel].
