The fall of the foot against the street beckoned and, with the thrill for the hunt, he gave chase. 

His own feet hammered against the pavement, propelling him towards the swirling mist, yet he could catch only shadows from the lamplight against the fog. He pushed on regardless, searching the back alleys and alcoves for a tell-tale shade of what he sought, but found only wide eyes and exclamations from the patrons of the night. After standing for a moment beneath the gas lamps of his city he caught his breath and cursed. His quarry had fled and once again he was left with a body.
