WISH YOU WERE HERE in North Berwick: Book Two

Ian Goodall’s latest ‘big picture’ book brings alive the best North Berwick picture postcards, many in full colour. Postcards were extremely popular from the early 1900s for sending short messages with a picture, the social media of its time, helped by a special postage rate of only one halfpenny when there were 480 halfpennies in a pound. 

North Berwick’s connection to the national rail network encouraged large numbers of postcard-sending holidaymakers who came for the beaches, harbour, boats, entertainment, outdoor swimming pool and golf courses which are featured on postcards in the book.

Wish You Were Here, with its treasure trove of local history, includes postcards by artist RP Phillimore who lived in North Berwick.
