She demonstrates her excellence and in so doing attracts male characters, including the Prince of Wales. She does not seem to care much about the rumors and scandals around her. Through her dedication to her work, Markham became the first woman to fly solo east-to-west across the Atlantic, and the person to fly non-stop from Europe to North America.
