Anthony Davis went from being a 6’3” guard to a 7-footer in the course of one summer. While his playing style changed due the growth spurt, he retained the footwork and ball skills that he'd honed while playing point guard. After dominating the college game and winning a championship in his one NCAA season at Kentucky, Davis moved on to the NBA as the consensus #1 Draft Pick.

Since coming into the NBA, AD had shown to be a brand new breed of “big man”: Super-long, super-athletic and able to score from anywhere, against anyone. Anthony David has had led the NBA in efficiency rating. His length gets him around and over anyone, and his smoothness lets AD put the ball on the floor and get to any spot off the dribble.

This Signature Workout program covers some of Anthony Davis’ best skills, namely:

Face-Up Shooting From Triple Threat Position
One-Dribble Post Scoring Moves
Post Hook Shots Over Defenders
Post Crossover And Spin Moves Utilizing Your Handling Skills

Background on Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis was drafted by the New Orleans Hornets in 2012 as the first overall pick, becoming the fifth Chicago-area player to do so. His first game was against the San Antonio Spurs where he scored 21 points, but still lost overall. Davis suffered a concussion in November 2012 and has to miss out on two games. His first game back from his injury he faced the Charlotte Bobcats and made his first double-double, not to mention 23 points and 11 rebounds. Again Davis injured himself, this time with a "stressed ankle", and missed another 11 games.

After healing from yet another injury Davis returned on March 5, 2013 and faced off against the Orlando Magic, scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds. He was selected for the 2013 NBA All-Rookie First Team and finished in second place for NBA Rookie of the Year. Davis had the most double-doubles in the rookie class for 2013.

The New Orleans Hornets changed their name to the New Orleans Pelicans but held onto their Anthony Davis as their lead player. Davis scored 20 points and 12 rebounds in the first game of the 2013-2014 season against Indiana. He became the youngest player to make 25 points and 15 rebounds in a single game only to beat his own record by scoring 32 points, 12 rebounds, 6 blocks against the Los Angeles Lakers. Anthony Davis was benched for most of December because of a fracture in his left hand. For the rest of the season he averaged 24.2 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. This won him third place for the NBA Most Improved Player Award. Davis played one of the best opening performances by scoring 26 points and 17 rebounds. He also made 9 blocks, 3 steals and 2 assists in his first game of the 2014–2015 season. He averaged 24.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks during the whole season, having the highest player efficiency rating of 30.89. On July 9, 2015, Davis signed a $145 million extension contract with the Pelicans.

FAQ on Anthony Davis

Who should train like Anthony Davis?

You're a long and athletic paint player who can step outside and abuse defenses. You're the most efficient scorer on the court and getting the ball in the paint almost always results in points (bucket or a foul). You block anything within your range on defense and keep the defensive boards clean. There isn't a player in the game who is big or athletic enough to guard you one-on-one.

The Anthony Davis workout is my first Hoop Handbook, is there anything I should know?

Your game will increase its overall range, in both inside and outside scoring. Your ability to create opportunities off the dribble will be enhanced to its highest levels.
