Cowboy

Axel Lone Wolf came home from the war with a bad leg and took the ranch on his shoulders. Forty head gone to rustlers. Twenty more dead in the pasture. His father in a coma, his uncle in the ground, and a bank note that doesn't care about any of it.

Veterinarian Jessie Davis is the county's new large-animal vet, and the Lone Wolf cattle are her first real case. What's killing them isn't a plant, a virus, or bad water. It's something somebody put there — and the second she says so, her truck ends up in a ditch and her clinic gets tossed.

Axel can't ride the fence line fast enough to stop it. Jessie can't prove who's behind it. Together they've got a herd that won't survive another month, and one invoice that ties the poison to a ranch on the other side of the fence.

Somebody wants Lone Wolf Ranch to fail quietly. The cowboy and the vet are about to make it loud.
