The story of the Five Little Sisters is a true one. The sisters grew up on a Texas farm picking cotton during the Great Depression. The sisters were Jean, Pod, Lessie ,Bessie and Low. They lived in a two-room shack without electricity, running water, or sewer. They walked a mile to a school that was warmed by a pot belly stove and only had windows for light...  The sisters wore hand-made flour sack dresses to school. They were poor but their mother Mary Belle always made sure her girls were well fed. Their dad Robert Bruce was a descendant of a Scottish clan and was determined to get his family out of their poor living conditions. The farm owner was tough on everyone. Following his American dream, Robert Bruce broke away from the farm by creating a profitable business that was in demand during the Great Depression. Robert Bruce's business changed the lives of the five little sisters. They went from picking cotton to the easier city life... This is the story of their younger years.
