When I was young I dreamed of becoming a merchant, of sailing between stars, of trading strange goods with even stranger aliens.
I never intended to become a Privateer.
Neither did I plan to become a gambler; it's a risky profession.
But starships are expensive. Dozens of lifetimes could not earn enough money to buy one.
That reality had stolen my dream, so I had drifted into gambling.
It was almost the same. You trade cards. You play the hand you're dealt. Regardless of odds or cards, you face the other players.
And slowly the games revealed a greater reality.
Before our lives are over, the Wheel of Fortune will have made winners and losers of us all.
