“Midnight’s Children” by Salman Rushdie is said to be one of the most widely read book in the 20th century.

The book basically deals with India’s transition from British colonialism to independence and consequently the partition of British India.
“Midnight’s Children” is a very good example of postcolonial literature and magical realism.

Saleem Sinai is the protagonist of the story, and the story is told from his perspective. The book mentions various actual historical events in their fictional form.

“Midnight’s Children” was published in the year 1981. In the same year of its publication, the book won both the Booker Prize and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize.

In the years 1993 and 2008, the book was awarded the “Booker of Bookers” Prize and the best all time prize winners. These awards were given on the occasion of the Booker Prize 25th and 40th anniversary.
