Something strange is happening to Green. He's nearly died and, as if called, Green now wanders the Appalachian mountains. There in the dark woods are the answers about the impossible creatures he's starting to see: cryptids.

He meets hermit Valentina, a cryptonaturalist like himself, who can guide him through his new powers. In his studies, Green meets giant moths, cyclops squirrels, and jackalopes. Best of all, Green has a sense of fulfillment like nothing he's felt before. But with something new hunting for Green, he must learn to protect the place, people and creatures he has come to love.
