Grant Peters is sixteen and wants nothing more than to compete in calf roping at rodeos—and keep winning gold. But Logan Summers is always in his way.

The two are locked in an ongoing battle, with one or the other winning by a fraction of a second every time. And whenever Logan wins, he gives Grant a smug little smile that drives him crazy.

At home, Grant can escape the pressure of the rodeo—and the confusing feelings Logan stirs up in him. But when he discovers a dead deer on the property, he realizes something dangerous is threatening everything he loves. The deer was killed by a cougar, and if word gets out, the tourists who keep his family's ranch in business could disappear.

If that happens, Grant could lose everything: his family ranch, his future in rodeo, and his horse, Thunder. Determined to save it all, Grant takes matters into his own hands and rides into the forest to take down the cougar.
