During World War 2, over seven thousand American soldiers were held as prisoners of war in the Japanese-occupied Philippines. Many had survived the infamous Bataan Death March of April 1942 only to face starvation and torture in cramped cells ran by the kempei, Japan's military police. Until They Eat Stones is a first-hand account of life in the POW camps as the situation unfolded, offering a unique perspective from someone in the middle of the maelstrom.
