Publisher Description
Blackstone Publishing presents a new recording of this immensely popular book.
One of the most celebrated classics of the twentieth century, Orwell’s cautionary tale of a man trapped under the gaze of an authoritarian state feels more relevant now than ever before.
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police, a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities’ will and people live tepid lives by rote.
Winston Smith, the hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him. He knows even as he continues to pursue his forbidden love affair that eventually he will come to destruction.
The year 1984 has come and gone, yet George Orwell’s nightmare vision in 1949 of the world we were becoming is still the great modern classic of negative Utopia. It is a prophetic and haunting tale that exposes the worst crimes imaginable: the destruction of freedom and truth.

hmm
misclassified as fiction.
It's worth it
First- you'll understand the language much better later on, as they explain it.
Second- I think this book would be beneficial for anyone to read. It shows a "distorted" reality which really isn't too far from current times when you pick apart societal particulars and think on how that could ring true for today. It really gets you thinking. I very much enjoyed it. The last chunk of the book I didn't like so much but it was necessary for the resolution and ability to process the rest of the story so far, but it's worth it.
But PS- the language in THE book (in the story) is HARD to get through, but if you just wait till later, they basically go through the important parts later and expand upon them. i tried so hard to understand it the first time around just to have them slowly go over the same thing all over again and i felt like i wasted my time trying to figure it out initially
Book III >>>
The audio quality and change of tones from the speaker is very well executed. Book III was such a twist and I listened to it in a single day!! I would totally recommend this if you love psychological and philosophical literature. Every single motif, symbol, scene, and character had a significant role. If you made it this far, just know that you need to take everything into account. This is the best well written book I have ever read. 100% would recommend.
