The classic novel about Paddington—who's now a major movie star!
Paddington Bear had traveled all the way from Peru when the Browns first met him in Paddington Station. Since then, their lives have never been quite the same . . . for ordinary things become extraordinary when a bear called Paddington is involved.
First published in 1958, A Bear Called Paddington is the first novel by Michael Bond, chronicling the adventures of this lovable bear. Paddington has charmed readers for generations with his earnest good intentions and humorous misadventures. This brand-new edition of the classic novel contains the original text by Michael Bond and illustrations by Peggy Fortnum.
He's That Sort of Bear . . .
I remember the weekly trips to the school library when I was just a wee girl, and I always checked out Paddington Bear (except, of course, if the copy were taken by another grubby kid--in that case, I would give the librarian a hard stare). Rediscovering Paddington all these years later has been an absolute joy, especially the audio books narrated by the incomparable Stephen Fry. I've listened to this so much that I hear Stephen's voice in my head whenever Paddington manages to squeeze into my thoughts. Don't hesitate to buy this and its follow-up (also available on iTunes). Really, I don't care if you're six or sixty, you're never too old for that little brown bear from Darkest Peru.
Paddington's Adventures Begin
Paddington, a small unassuming bear, is discovered on a railway platform by Mr. and Mrs. Brown. "Please Look After This Bear" is the note attached to Paddington, and the Brown family decides they will do just that.
So begins this delightful piece of English literature.
I'm so happy I got this audiobook because its reader is superb: each character in the story is portrayed perfectly. And this book is a hoot! Paddington draws the Browns, a wonderfully proper English family, into many unusual situations and adventures. Paddington has a way of giving the reader (or listener) a fresh way of looking at the world.
I'm very pleased to have met Paddington, and look forward to reading of his further adventures.
Clever and Sweet ♥️
A lovely Bear from Darkest Peru. Paddington enjoys orange marmalade sandwiches, his Auntie, excellent value, geography, learning, reading, investigating, adventures, trying anything once • (the fun things twice) • sharing hot cocoa, buns & real time with his friends and family, getting into messes, and always landing on his feet.
Proof that • Kindness is Magic.
