Publisher Description
London, 1923. Newly minted research assistant Saffron Everleigh is the first woman to hold the position at University College of London. When she attends a dinner party for the school, she expects to engage in conversations about the university's large expedition to the Amazon. What she doesn’t expect is for Mrs. Henry, one of the professors’ wives, to drop to the floor, poisoned by an unknown toxin.
Dr. Maxwell, Saffron’s mentor, is the main suspect, and evidence quickly mounts. Joined by flirtatious fellow researcher Alexander Ashton, Saffron uses her knowledge of botany as she explores steamy greenhouses, dark gardens, and deadly poisons to clear Maxwell's name.
Will she be able to uncover the truth, or will her investigation land her on the murderer’s list?
In this entertaining examination of society’s expectations, debut author Kate Khavari deftly sheds a light on the struggles of women in a male-dominated field, wrapped in mystery and murder.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Saffron Everleigh has enough on her plate simply trying to distinguish herself as a female research assistant in 1920s London. But when a colleague’s wife is poisoned in public, she puts her extensive botanical knowledge to use in a bid to clear her mentor’s name. The first in a series of novels starring the plant-minded sleuth, A Botanist’s Guide to Parties and Poisons is a cosy murder mystery with all the rich period detail of historical fiction. Read with fitting levity and poise by Jodie Harris, the audiobook is a memorable introduction to a protagonist who isn’t afraid to challenge the era’s expectations.

Simple suspense
Even if you’re not too much of a suspense reader, this is a fun read. It’s just the right amount of science, suspense, and mystery. The character development was deep enough to discover the workings of each character and appreciate their roles. Worth a read!
Outstanding plot and narrator!
I loved the puzzle the author laid out. Definitely a few twists I didn’t see coming! 5/5, easy and fun listen. Good characters and light romance blossoming.
