Embark on an exciting, adventurous, and dangerous journey through the galaxy with the motley crew of the spaceship Wayfarer in this fun and heart-warming space opera—the sequel to the acclaimed The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet.
Lovelace was once merely a ship’s artificial intelligence. When she wakes up in a new body, following a total system shut-down and reboot, she has no memory of what came before. As Lovelace learns to negotiate the universe and discover who she is, she makes friends with Pepper, an excitable engineer, who’s determined to help her learn and grow.
Together, Pepper and Lovey will discover that no matter how vast space is, two people can fill it together.
The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet introduced listeners to the incredible world of Rosemary Harper, a young woman with a restless soul and secrets to keep. When she joined the crew of the Wayfarer, an intergalactic ship, she got more than she bargained for—and learned to live with, and love, her rag-tag collection of crewmates.
A Closed and Common Orbit is the stand-alone sequel to that beloved debut novel, and is perfect for fans of Firefly, Joss Whedon, Mass Effect, and Star Wars.

Just a great story!
I really do enjoy this series. I'm not sure that you can really call this a series since there are only two characters from the first novel. In the first novel, Lovelace, was the AI on the spaceship, and Pepper, was a minor character. In this novel these two take center stage. This novel is filled with love and wonder. It will floor you at certain times. Lovelace, now know as Sidra, is now occupying a body. She spends the majority of the novel trying to make peace with this body. Even though it has some pluses like the ability to taste and feel it is nowhere close to how omnipotent she felt as an AI on a spaceship. There are limitations to being put inside this humanoid form. Pepper's life is so sad and dreary that it will make you weep at times. Pepper's strength is what allowed her to escape from her captivity and become the awesome person that she became. Pepper's backstory is one that I will think about for a long time. She is an afterthought for those who created her yet she is so wonderful. I loved that the relationship between Sidra and Pepper is not sweet and nice. There is not violence in this novel which is so refreshing. This is just a great story.

It’s the immediate followup to “The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet” with a new story line, new-ish characters, and new life. I needed more and this didn’t disappoint. I love sci-fi that isn’t too heavy, and the mix of gender/alien species was easy to relate. Thank you Becky Chambers for bringing contemporary thoughts of love and acceptance into the future! ❤️🪐🚀
