This was a great story that was different from Tijan’s previous books to me!
Jess had some grit to her and was such a great strong female role. I felt the emotions she had wonderfully as well. Trace had a hidden side to him that I so enjoyed to see and the connection between the two was great. I loved watching them face their troubles both together and separate. I was entertained throughout the entire story.

I’ve had the absolute pleasure of reading the Brilliance audio ARC of A Dirty Business which has been my first leap into Mafia romance! I had been wanting to test the waters by the end of the year, so when Brilliance Audio offered me this ARC I pounced! As expected I love it, and it’s definitely joining the ranks of new genres I now love! I found both of our MC’s Jess and Trace (hopefully I’m allowed to call him that! 😉) very endearing and relatable with their real world struggles with family amidst a very insta lust chance meeting at a hockey game.They’re both fighting it at first, though DEFINITELY Jess more than Trace at first, it’s clear there’s something big there they can’t ignore. I loved the intensity of Trace’s pursuit of the unforgettable Jess, and how he went to so many lengths, even if it was a bit overboard I somehow liked it anyway! And the tension, THE TENSION!!! The tension was so well paced throughout their will we won’t we!! I was on the edge of my seat screeching “WHAT DO YOU WANT?!” whenever anyone had the audacity to interrupt me reading.
There was definitely no lack of plot here which I appreciate. Even though our MCs are VERY different, one a parole officer and one a Mafia Man, they somehow at their foundations have more in common than not. I love that bridge between them, and how their romance unfolded in a very realistic timeline. Both narrators were fantastic!
The world building and back story was well fleshed out, and brought a lot of context to their character arcs. The side characters also brought a lot to the characters depth, and it’s clear Tijan knows how to give you a full world that both makes sense, and grips your heart. I was rooting for these characters quickly who both have made a lot of sacrifices in the name of family, and I wanted them to have something for themselves! I loved that Tijan’s writing style gripped me so much that I was up far too late reading! That cliffhanger ending HAS ME FRANTIC FOR MORE!! I’ll definitely be continuing the Kings of New York series and I’m glad I chose this book to leap into Mafia romance!
Now to the narration. I’ve read a few books with narrator CJ Bloom who is always fun and full of spunk, and my first time with Joe Arden narration and he was without flaw and fit Trace so well. I will definitely be looking for more titles narrated by him in the future! Overall I think both narrators brought a lot to their characters and enriched the already well written story by making it feel more real with their unique voices. I would definitely recommend the audiobook when reading this steamy contemporary romance!

Intense!!
That was intense. I don't think I have ever been so keyed up reading a book before. The way this author had these two dancing around each other enthralled me, and frustrated me...in a good way.
I absolutely loved Jess's character. Talk about a woman who can hold her own against the baddest of the bad. I loved how she handled herself. She's perfect for Trace and his occupation even though she's trying to stay apart from that side of him. Heck, I can see her taking over the mafia, that's how much of a boss she is.
Trace is even better. His obsession with her had me hooked from the start, and I loved how he didn't just bulldoze his way into her life. That man is a patient man. He also treated her with such respect. It's what really had me so impatient with these two. I wanted them to get past the issues and faster and yet I know the way it went is a big reason why I couldn't put this book down.
It's going to be so hard to wait for the next book. I just didn't want to stop reading and I have to know what happens next! This was an excellent read!
