A Group of Noble Dames is an 1891 collection of short stories by great English novelist Thomas Hardy.
The ten stories focus on "store of ladies, whose bright eyes rain influence". Hardy delves into the hidden depths of country families to reveal what went on behind the scenes.

“A good horror has its place in art.” – Hardy
Hardy was notoriously sensitive to bad reviews and the critics of his day slaughtered A Group of Noble Dames as sensationalist, obnoxious and horrific. I would call them thought provoking and highly entertaining.
This version is superbly read by a narrator who is perfect for a set of historical tales told by the members of a Victorian gentlemen’s club to while away the time.
