Publisher Description

NOW A #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER! An unflinching, darkly funny, and deeply moving story of a boy, his seriously ill mother, and an unexpected monstrous visitor.

At seven minutes past midnight, thirteen-year-old Conor wakes to find a monster outside his bedroom window. But it isn’t the monster Conor’s been expecting - he’s been expecting the one from his nightmare, the nightmare he’s had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments. The monster in his backyard is different. It’s ancient. And wild. And it wants something from Conor. Something terrible and dangerous. It wants the truth. From the final idea of award-winning author Siobhan Dowd - whose premature death from cancer prevented her from writing it herself - Patrick Ness has spun a haunting and darkly funny novel of mischief, loss, and monsters both real and imagined.

A monster calls

I had to read this for a English in college. This book is a lot better then I thought it was going to be. I enjoyed it. This book is awesome. I enjoy the story telling and the topic that not every person is good nor evil. That everyone see what they want to. Even though humans are so very complex. That every one story needs to be looked at with more than one side. This book had me in tears before the end, and not the good kind. One of my favorite quotes is “You need you need to break things. Then by God you break them.”

Well written and well read

I love this book because of the creativity and straightforwardness of the story. What a deep dive into emotions in such an easily read story. The narrator for this did it so much justice- so emotional and enjoyable to listen to.. I listened to the whole thing straight through.
