"A skillful narration of this story, especially its humor, makes this a fun and enjoyable performance" —AudioFile on Can't Spell Treason Without Tea
Bookshops & Bonedust meets Our Flag Means Death in this cozy fantasy on the low seas, where lesbian pirates find out if enemies actually can become lovers!
Kianthe and Reyna are on the hunt for dragon eggs to save their hometown—but it requires making a deal with Diarn Arlon, lord of the legendary Nacean River. Simply capture the river pirate Serina, who’s been plaguing Arlon's supply chains, and bring her in for justice. Easy peasy.
Begrudgingly, the couple joins forces with Bobbie, one of Arlon’s constables determined to capture the pirate. Except Bobbie and Serina have a more complicated history than anyone realized, and it might jeopardize everything.
While Kianthe and Reyna watch this relation-shipwreck from afar, it quickly becomes apparent that these disaster lesbians need all the help they can get. Luckily, matchmaking is Reyna’s favorite pastime.
The dragon eggs may have to wait.

Customer Reviews
Fantastic
Stars: 5 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Narrator: Jessica Threet
Series: Tomes and Tea Book 2
Steam Level: Not Steamy until a bonus one shot at the end
I read this for the I Heart Sapphic 2025 Reading Challenge for the prompt Fantasy.
Another great installment in this cozy sapphic fantasy series. I can’t wait for the last two books.
Quick Thoughts:
- The title alone would have earned this book a star if it wasn’t already a five star read
- Dedication: To the people who gave me one-star reviews because the first book "had lesbians." I doubled the lesbians in this one. Just for you.
- I love how book one starts with these two love birds already together for a few years and are embarking upon a life together, it adds a lovely dimension to their interactions in this book
- I can’t stress enough how Reyna and Kianthe are just so incredibly cute. Their dynamic together, and individually, give this series its charm
- How does Rebecca Thorne make side characters so much fun?
- Okay one gripe here. Crochet hooks are called hooks, not needles
- Also I soooooo relate to using crocheting as a way to destress
- I like how the couples work and care about their partner so deeply while still being their own person with their own needs
- Be prepared to stay up late to see how things come together
- There’s a bit hurt/comfort in this if you like that trope or if you need it for a book challenge
- No third act break up!
- Why do people think they can best a Queen’s Guard and The Mage of Ages?
- Whew. That bonus story after the epilogue is HOT
- Jessica Threet does a fabulous job narrating this book. Her inflection for different characters makes dialogue easy to follow
- Even though this is wonderful on audiobook, I would not recommend listening to it if you’re a novice listener. There is something about this book that requires a bit more concentration
Overall this is truly a wonderful cozy fantasy series, perfect for those who love Legends & Lattes. If you don’t start a series until it’s complete, it finishes this year (2025) with a total of four books in the series.
