Publisher Description

Robert Goolrick’s riveting debut novel is both foreboding and sensual. When a wealthy man first meets his mail-order bride in 1907, he realizes this statuesque beauty is anything but a “simple missionary’s daughter.” But he doesn’t know of her devious plan to leave Wisconsin as a rich widow. Nor does she know of the furious demons he longs to unleash during the lonely months of snowbound isolation. “A sublime murder ballad …”—Kirkus Reviews, starred review

Profound Resonance

I found this book suggestion from one of NPR's reading lists and it did not disappoint. Sexy, sad, gothic, uncomfortable, raw & at times gripping will have you wanting more as the story unfolds. I was hoping for a more climactic ending but good none-the-less. I hated to for it to end. The narrator is perfect for this audiobook. Definitely recommend.

Just ok

I have mixed feelings about this book. The narrator was not as bad as some of the other reviews describe him, but it simply isn't the best book to listen to. It wasn't horrible, but I certainly wouldn't put it in the hat to be drawn to read at my book club.

Wonderful

This book was much more than I exected. Awesome story line, love, romance, and murder?
