Clear your calendar for a devious and satisfyingly complex domestic thriller. Daniel Sutherland has been found dead in his houseboat on the Thames by a nosy neighbor. Paula Hawkins, best-selling author of The Girl on the Train, fills in the contours of the troubled young man’s life from the perspectives of the women who were a part of it, including his bitter mother, Angela; her ostentatiously grief-stricken sister, Carla; and Laura, a damaged young woman who was the last person seen leaving the houseboat. Hawkins is a master of the domestic thriller. She leaps back and forth in time between her characters, treating us to guilty secrets, intertwined tragedies, and shocking revelations that get more and more tangled and sordid. All this and a genuinely shocking, jaw-dropping conclusion. Actress Rosamund Pike’s dramatic narration captures each of the distinct British voices beautifully. Interesting plot twist. Decent read.
Much better than Girl on the Train
I found this book to have a much better pace and better characters than her previous works. She’s getting better with time. Entertaining and although I had a guess I wasn’t allowed to be sure until the very end.

Painfully boring. Too many point of views and plot lines that all amounted to nothing. Probably the most dull book I’ve ever read.
